Natasha is a home maker whose main concern was the weight she had been gaining for 8 months. Her health history revealed that she led a stressful and sedentary lifestyle and had a family history of hypothyroidism. She also had started experiencing irregular menstrual periods in the past 4 months.

Based on her health goal, history, and risk of hormonal conditions, she was recommended to undergo predictive genetic testing.

Key Findings

DNA-based Plan

  • A diet high in fiber and complex carbohydrates was suggested, which can help with weight loss and faster satiety.
  • It was recommended to avoid foods like ghee and coconut oil which are rich in saturated fats. The use of sunflower oil and olive oil was suggested.
  • Her poor ability to maintain weight loss along with a high risk of PCOS indicated the need for a sustainable diet that Natasha could follow for a long period.
  • To ensure adequate vitamin intake, foods like eggs, milk, and salmon was included in the diet. Further, Natasha was asked to take a blood serum test to confirm the vitamin levels before recommending additional supplementation.
  • She was asked to start doing at-home yoga for 5 days a week and 2 sessions in the gym. Yoga can help improve flexibility and performance during workouts and can help in dealing with stress.

What’s Natasha upto now?

  • Within 6 months of following the recommended diet, Natasha lost 8.5 kgs and was slowly but surely getting close to her goal.
  • Targeted nutrition support and food choices, and the sustainable nature of the diet made it easy for her to continue the diet and see visible results.
  • Since she started following the new diet and fitness routine, she felt more energetic and her symptoms of PCOS also appeared to be under control.
  • Her high risk for hypothyroidism, along with her family history of hypothyroidism, prompted her to undergo a test that revealed her borderline thyroid hormone levels.
  • She undergoes regular consultation to monitor her hormone levels and since the risk was already indicated in the report, her recommended diet had already taken this factor into account. Therefore, eliminating any need for altering the diet.
